Dr. Kamran Khan is an infectious disease physician-scientist and the Founder and CEO of BlueDot, a Toronto-based epidemic intelligence company that combines big data, human expertise, and artificial intelligence to help governments and organizations anticipate and respond to infectious disease threats. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, based at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital.

Motivated by his experience as a frontline physician during the 2003 SARS outbreak in Toronto, Kamran spent the next decade studying human mobility and the globalization of infectious disease before founding BlueDot in 2013. His research has been published in journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Science, and Nature. In January 2020, BlueDot’s platform was among the first in the world to flag the emerging risk of what would become COVID-19, publishing the first peer-reviewed study to accurately anticipate its global spread.

Kamran’s work during global health emergencies has led him into advisory roles from the World Health Organization to the White House, and in 2018 he received a Governor General’s Innovation Award for his work on BlueDot.
